Gotham Bar & Grill – Just splendid

Gotham Bar & Grill lives up to it’s stellar reputation. My wife and I love good food and enjoy handcrafted drinks at a bar. As we are passionate cooks and drink mixers ourselves, we pick our restaurants with care and Gotham delivered on December 11, 2016 on all levels: ambiance, service, bar, wines and of course food.

We started with drinks at the bar. My wife chose a Barrel Old Fashion, which was slightly on the sweet side. I opted for a Hibiscus Mule, which was refreshing and a great way to start my appetite.

Once at the table we chose the following: a perfectly al dente cooked risotto with fresh white truffles. 64 $ may not be cheap, but the simplicity of the dish just showed the care of the cooks that went into it. My yellow fin tuna tartare decorated with crispy toast slices and a little Japanese cucumber was simply devine.

The second course was seared Hudson Valley fois gras with fresh figs, dried fruit compote and Medjool date purée. The sweetness of these sides combined in perfect harmony with the fresh fois gras.

The main course was Maine lobster accompanied by braised savoy cabbage, Beluga lentils, marble potatoes, sauce americaine. Once again a beautiful combination of tastes and textures. We skipped dessert and finished the best meal of 2016 with a nice espresso.

As a wine we chose a bottle of Mâcon-Verzé, domaine Leflaive, a french burgundy from a region we know personally. it’s crispness worked perfectly with our menu.
